My 5 Favourite Products For Sleep Training
When starting a new hobby or sport, there are things you’ll need to buy in order to do that activity right. Whether you’ve joined a Volleyball team, a Pottery Guild, or even an Adult Figure Skating Group, there are items that you’ll need to buy first to set yourself up for success.
The same is true for sleep training! Granted, you don’t need to buy anything super specific, but I frequently get asked about my favourite noise machine or baby monitor, so I wanted to curate a list for you here.
My Top 5 Favourite Products for Sleep Training:
Noise Machine: The Hatch Baby Rest or MomCozy DreamSync
I’ve talked about the Hatch before in great detail in a blog post here, but to put it simply: I love it. It is a noise machine and toddler clock combo. The noise on the machine can be controlled by percentage, so you can choose a precise noise level for your child. You can also set schedules on your Hatch so that you hardly have to ever touch it.
The DreamSync is a newer product, but it does have many amazing features as well. It also acts as a “wake up” clock for toddlers, and the thing I love the most about the DreamSync is that you can remotely access it from anywhere. You don’t have to be within a certain range for it to connect to your phone - it’ll simply connect whether you’re trying to turn it on from downstairs or from Calgary. So predictable and easy. The noise is also controlled by percentage, so you can choose a precise sound and volume for your child’s nursery.Newton Crib Mattress
The Newton Crib Mattress is the Ferrari of baby crib mattresses. It’s pricy compared to IKEA or other cheap dupes, but it can’t be beat when it comes to comfort, cleanliness, and safety. The Newton mattress is fabricated without foam or springs, and your baby could literally be laying face-down into the mattress, and still be able to breathe. It’s also super easy to clean. We’ve had a throw-up accident on the mattress before, and we were able to unzip the covers, put them in the wash, and then take the core of the mattress (which is plastic) and we were able to hose it off in the bathroom with the shower head. It’s incredible and seriously worth every penny.Levana Nala Baby Monitor
I have 3 kids, and I had my kids relatively close together. My oldest was 3 when I had my daughter, and then just 15 months later, my 3rd baby was born. At one point, I had 3 baby monitors on the go so I was able to see them all during the night. I have been through countless baby monitors. Cheap ones on Amazon, more expensive ones, and even ones gifted from friends. The best baby monitor I have ever had, is the Levana Nala. The picture is SO clear, the night vision is great, and the set-up was incredibly simple. The features are easy to use and the monitor is easy to navigate. I find the connection strong and I can use it in my garage or my basement with no difficulty. I was even able to bring it outside in the summer while I was gardening, and the range was fine. It’s on the pricier end of baby monitors, but it’s absolutely worth it. This is one monitor that you won’t have to swap out - it’s a keeper.Perlimpinpin Sleep Sack
I’ve also tried many, many sleep sacks, and I always come back to Perlimpinpin’s bamboo collection. There are many other bigger bamboo brands that I’ve tried, and I seriously like Perlimpinpin the best. Their bamboo sleep sacks are 70% Bamboo Cotton, and 30% Cotton, and I find that combo so much more durable than brands who have 99% Bamboo, 1% Cotton. Those ones seem to pill, tear quicker, and the washing/drying process is more tedious. If you’re local to Fort McMurray, Alberta, I do keep some Perlimpinpin sleep sacks in stock, but if you’re not local - I recommend ordering straight through their website. They’re fantastic.Blackout Shades (Blackout EZ or Otter Space)
Blackout blinds are an absolute MUST-HAVE for every nursery. I have found 2 brands that I absolutely love. Otter Space is an amazing option for parents in the US. Their products are incredible and portable. Their blackout curtains are simple to install, and provide a completely blacked-out environment for your baby to sleep in. Unfortunately they don’t ship to Canada (yet!), but if you’re located in the US, this is 100% the brand I would go with.
BlackoutEZ is another brand I love, but I would say that their blackout window covers are more of a permanent solution for families who are not renting or moving anytime soon. Their products are easy to install, but with velcro having to cover the entirety of the windowsill, it can be a pain to remove when you move. However, the cover itself is completely blackout - ensuring a pitch black sleep space for your baby (or even for yourself!).
Of course, there are so many products out there that I love, but these are my top 5!! If you have something you love, post it below! I’d love to check it out!
