Product Review: The Newton Baby Crib Mattress

I am so excited to share this product review with you today. As you all know, I love trialing and testing new baby sleep items to let you know if they are worth the purchase. I know that while on maternity leave, funds are usually tight, so I don’t want you wasting your money on something that isn’t worth the cost!

When I was prepping my nursery for my first baby, I didn’t really know what the hype about different crib mattresses was all about. All I knew was that you needed one for your crib. There are some crib mattresses that are so old and no longer pass safety regulations, but still get sold on Facebook Marketplace or other Buy and Sell groups. Admittedly… we had gotten one of those old hand-me-down crib mattresses for Drake. As time went on and I learned about the sleep consulting world, I realized that the type of crib mattress totally matters.

So, why the Newton Baby Crib Mattress?

  1. Breathable.
I am an advocate for safe sleep. I preach it, I teach it, and I live it. I have 3 kids and my 2 older kids were back sleepers from the start. I always laid every one of my babies on their backs and they would continue sleeping on their backs all night long. However, with my third, once she started to roll, she slept on her tummy 100% of the time. The Newton baby crib mattress is 100% breathable. Like I’m not even joking. If your face in pressed into the mattress, you can still breath comfortably. I felt confident letting my baby sleep on her tummy especially since using the Newton. I’m confident in the safety of her sleep space since I even tested the breathability myself!

  2. Washable.
As a mom of 3, I’ve dealt with my fair share of poop, pee, throw up, and snot accidents in the crib. We’re clearly not sugar-coating anything around here lol. What I especially love about the Newton is that the entire mattress is washable. So if you forget to put a mattress protector on, it’s not a big deal. The outer quilted portion of the mattress zips off and gets washed in the washing machine while the core of the mattress can be hosed down in the tub. Since the inner core is made out of food-grade material (similar to what a yogurt cup is made out of), it can be washed with a hose or a shower head and then propped up to dry. This is probably my favourite ‘convenience’ part of the Newton crib mattress. I’ve dealt with far too many accidents on mattresses that couldn’t be thoroughly washed…resulting in staining and eventual replacement.

  3. No Toxic Materials. Like I mentioned in my previous point, the Newton Crib Mattress is made from food-grade material similar to what a yogurt cup is made out of. That means there is absolutely no foam, no latex, and no adhesives. Your baby spends a LOT of time in the crib, and you want to make sure that they space they spend 12+ hours in every day is safe and healthy for them. Foam is a breeding ground for bacteria, so I was happy to rid my house of old baby mattresses!

  4. Committed to Safety.
The team at Newton Baby is committed to safe sleep, which is evident when looking at their products shown on their website. Their crib mattress is the perfect combination of comfortable, but firm and flat. Which is exactly what young child and infants need to sleep well.

  5. 100-Day Trial.
Many companies offer a 100-day satisfaction trial, and I wasn’t surprised to see that Newton Baby also offers this trial period. If you aren’t satisfied with your mattress in 100-days, you can contact them to return it for a full refund. Not only does this demonstrate trust in their product, but it also reassures parents that their money isn’t going to waste!

  6. Colour Options.
I love that they have different mattress colour options! I opted for white, but they have grey, pink, and blue crib mattress options available. I’ve never seen another baby crib mattress come in a colour other than white!

And now for some (hardly) negatives about the Newton Baby Crib Mattress:

  1. Price. The cost of the Newton Crib Mattress is higher than generic crib mattresses, but once you get to know the brand and why their crib mattress is better, you’ll understand the cost. However, this could be a set-back for some families.

  2. Shipping. Since the Newton Brand is based in the US, there are shipping costs associated with getting their mattresses to Canada. However, they offer a $50 flat rate that includes duties (so you and a friend could both order for the same shipping fee!), so that’s a total bonus!

All in all, I really really love this product and I will be recommended their crib mattresses for all of my clients. They are not even comparable to other brands - they’re simply the best. I reached out to them for an affiliate discount code, and they gave me a code to share with my followers to take $$ off their purchase at checkout!
