Product Review: MomCozy 5” Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor

Product Review: Momcozy 5” Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor

Back when I was pregnant with my first baby in 2017/2018, I remember going on many walks with my mom. During those walks, we’d talk about everything-baby, birth, and the future. I was so excited to become a mom, and talking about motherhood with my own mother made it that much more exciting. One of the topics we chatted through was whether or not I would use a baby monitor. Of course, back in the 90’s when I was born, baby monitors were not a thing. We shared a room with our parents until they kicked us out into our own rooms, and God knows how they heard us cry…we all made it out okay though, right?

I can’t exactly remember why, but I do remember feeling a little conflicted on whether or not I would use a baby monitor. I had a really close friend who had given birth a year before me and she really really struggled with Postpartum Depression and Anxiety. So much so, that she couldn’t physically take her eyes off of the baby monitor if her baby was away from her. I really felt for her, but I also knew that if I had a choice, I was not going to be that attached to the baby monitor like she was.

While my husband and I were looking for baby furniture, another friend of ours offered to sell us a bundle of items together for a great price - this bundle included a playpen with a bassinet, a crib, an actual bassinet, and of course, a video baby monitor. It was an older model D-Link Wifi monitor that hooked up to your phone. It came as a camera and connected with an app. We set it up in our son’s nursery shortly before he was born and never looked back.

I don’t think I could have survived my first few months (heck, my first few years) as a mother without a video monitor. I would have driven myself crazy wondering if I had heard the baby or if I was just imagining it. As much as I loved it, this old D-Link monitor had many flaws. Throughout the night, it would lose connection without notifying me. The wifi was also spotty and I felt like I couldn’t trust it. I ended up tossing that monitor and “upgrading” to a cheap Amazon version. This one was simple, practical, and got the job done. Thankfully in my 7 years of being a mother, I haven’t been one to be glued to the screen - I simply turn it on while I’m sleeping and check on my babies if I hear them crying.

That cheap Amazon video monitor didn’t last very long before I needed an upgrade. I also needed another 2 monitors once I welcomed my daughters into the world when my son was 3, and then 4 years old.

When I tell you that I’ve been through baby monitors, I mean it. Similar to sound machines, I have tried many, loved a few, disliked some, and felt neutral towards some as well.

I can’t wait to share my thoughts about the new Momcozy Smart Baby Monitor.

Guys, this is it.

Whenever I do product reviews, I usually make a list of pros and cons, but I can honestly say (and trust me when I say I’m honest), I love this baby monitor.

Here are some key features of the Momcozy 5” Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor

  • Quick Set-Up & Easy Pairing on App
I’m not kidding when I say this entire set up took me 2 minutes. The handheld monitor portion comes charged, so I plugged the camera in, opened up my Momcozy app (which I already had downloaded), clicked “add device,” scanned the QR code, and voila! Easy peasy. I took 1 extra minute to properly input the time into the monitor since I like things to coordinate and match, but other than that, things were fast and easy! The instruction manual also comes with clear step-by-step instructions for the set-up, but I usually just turn things on by myself and only refer to the booklet if I run into a problem…which I did not, haha!

  • Remote Access Via App & Dual Control
I LOVE THIS FEATURE. As someone who frequently gets a babysitter in the evenings, I absolutely love that I can remotely access the baby monitor through my app to check in on my sleeping toddler. I don’t like when baby monitors are “wifi only,” making your phone the monitor, but I LOVE having both options. You can watch through the Momcozy App, or through the hand-held monitor at the same time. You can also control the camera from the App on your phone (which will also change the view on the screen of the Smart Baby Monitor), but I think it’s so cool.

  • Family Sharing
Since the App connects to the baby monitor, there is a family sharing option where you can share your camera screen with up to 20 different family members so they can also have access to see your child. This isn’t a feature I use, but it is a nice option to have.

  • Fantastic Resolution & Impeccable Night Vision
Like I mentioned before, I am no stranger to cheap monitors. So when I come across a high-end baby monitor, my jaw drops at the clear resolution and impeccable night vision. You mean to say, it doesn’t have to be blurry? The Momcozy Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor has some of the clearest pictures I have ever seen on a baby monitor to date. It is quality. I swear I could see a pin on the carpet of my daughter’s room if there were one. Night vision is also so important since that is when I use my baby monitor the most. I am not a parent who sits and watches the baby monitor while I’m awake, but it is part of my nightly routine to turn my baby monitor(s) on before climbing into bed myself. In fact, I turned on my Momcozy Dual-Mode Smart Monitor on 2 nights ago and noticed that my 2.5 year old had taken her sleep sack off. She wasn’t making any noise, but it’s winter time here in Canada and her room tends to get chilly. So, thanks to the clear visual on my baby monitor, I snuck into her room, put her cozy sleep sack back on, zipped her up, and snuck back out. Lovely.

  • Easy Volume Control
I love an easy-access volume button. Thankfully, the buttons to turn the volume up or down are located on the top of the monitor. With my sleep clients, I generally advise them to “mute” their baby monitors for a couple of minutes in the middle of the night if they hear their child wake up. Sometimes children can be noisy as they transition from one sleep cycle to the next, and crying can be a part of that noise. If we rush into their rooms right away, we can almost guarantee that we are waking them up further. But, if we mute the monitor for even 5 minutes and give them a chance to settle themselves, the chances of them falling back to sleep are significantly higher. All of that being said -I love that I don’t have to turn the screen on to see where the volume controls are.

  • Screen Off, Sound On
This is a common feature for most baby monitors, but one that I was happy to see with the Momcozy Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor. I really like being able to turn the screen black on a baby monitor while still being able to hear what’s going on. The brightness from a baby monitor can be really stimulating to a parent as they are trying to settle into sleep. Having a light from the monitor shining in your face is going to impact the quality of your own sleep, so the feature of being able to turn the screen off is huge.

  • Talk Through The Monitor
This baby monitor also has a feature to be able to talk through the camera to your child. What I like about this specific option for the Momcozy Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor, is that when talking through the monitor, your voice isn’t muffled. Your voice actually stays quite clear and precise - which is less ‘scary’ for children. When my oldest, Drake, was just 3 years old, I accidentally scarred him by talking through a cheap baby monitor that muffled my voice. I learned from my mistake and have steered clear from using the ‘voice’ option on any monitor since, but after testing this baby monitor out, I think we would have had a different outcome with him if we had had a higher quality monitor.

  • Record Your Baby
This baby monitor also has an option to record your child if they are doing something cute or memorable. You can simply go to the app and hit record and it’ll save a video of your baby. As a sleep consultant, I have used lots of footage of my own kiddos in their cribs as they self-soothe (just to show it’s possible!) and a record-feature on my baby monitor would have been so handy.

  • Lullaby Options
While this isn’t something I ever use, there are various lullabies that are accessible through the baby monitor. You can access them through the handheld monitor or through the Momcozy app. I played through a few and they are lovely. The reason why I won’t use these lullabies for my own children is simply because they already sleep so soundly with a noise machine - I’m not about to change anything up.

  • Danger Zone Alert for Added Safety & Smart Motion Detection
Stay one step ahead with instant app notifications when your baby leaves a designated safe area. You'll be alerted immediately so you can respond and keep them safe without delay. The Smart Motion Detection also notifies you of your baby's movement, for example, when your baby is sleeping face down, or has a blanket covering their face.
As an experienced sleep consultant, I teach the families that I work with that a baby’s sleep space must be clear of all items until they are at least 1-year old. It is also safe for a baby to sleep on their tummy as long as they roll there themselves. These alarms may add extra stressors and anxieties if a parent isn’t already worried about these factors, so in that case, I would recommend turning these added ‘alarms’ off. If you’re confident that your baby’s sleep space is safe and harm free, then let them roll around and sleep however they choose to in their crib.

After trying out the Momcozy Dual-Mode Smart Baby Monitor, I am a huge fan. This baby monitor is a quality product and Momcozy has made it so easy to intertwine their products through their app. I absolutely love the style, the simplicity, and the functionality. This is a baby monitor that I would recommend to my best friend or even my own sister. If you’re in the market for a new baby monitor, definitely check out Momcozy.
